PASA has recognised the need to provide vital guidance in the increasingly confusing choice of non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) monitors. With a comprehensive shift to automated blood pressure monitoring in the UK, PASA's new Buyer's Guide is designed to provide objective and clinically validated data on the wide range of non-invasive hospital grade devices currently available.
Welch Allyn's blood pressure monitors were appraised for accuracy, level of evidence and measurement repeatability. All three Welch Allyn devices passed the accuracy test and were rated as excellent for measurement repeatability and mechanical construction. In addition, the devices were shown to give correct readings even when subjected to low pulse strengths which can be vitally important when monitoring vulnerable patients.
Out of the 18 devices tested, only three devices met all of the assessment criteria and fell into the top category. Two of these, the Spot Vital Signs and Spot Vital Signs LXi, were from Welch Allyn. Furthermore a third Welch Allyn device, the VSM 300, fell into the second category of consideration.
Spot Vital Signs and Spot Vital Signs LXi also secured A/A grading when assessed by the PASA panel against the British Hypertension Society protocol - a further accolade which makes Welch Allyn's blood pressure monitors the ideal choice for any healthcare professional.
