Company will offer interactive booth experience at Medica 2009, showcasing new energy-efficient LED-based exam lights and previewing a simple, connectivity-ready electrocardiograph
Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, will showcase its newest suite of core diagnostics product offerings that feature next-generation electronic connectivity technology today at the 2009 Medica International Trade Fair with Congress in Dusseldorf, Germany. In addition to introducing a new energy-efficient medical exam light and offering visitors an exclusive preview of a new portable electrocardiograph, the company's state-of-the-art display in Hall 9, booth E15, complete with touch-screen kiosks and Mobile Clinical Assistant tablets, will add a high-tech dimension to the interactive demonstrations.
"This week at Medica Welch Allyn will feature our electronic connected solutions which offer significant clinical and economical benefits to providers," says Welch Allyn President and CEO Julie Shimer. "This is the direct result of the growing demand for device connectivity playing a greater role in healthcare delivery."
The company will showcase the Welch Allyn Green Series™ Medical Exam Lights—some of the first medical exam lights in the world to feature energy-efficient light- emitting diodes (LEDs). The new lights provide 50,000 hours of life and produce white, bright light with a color temperature of 5,500ºK, providing caregivers with superior illumination that offers industry-leading lumen performance.
The range of four Green Series Medical Exam Lights are designed for use in a variety of healthcare settings—from general examinations in the physician's office, to in-depth and specialist examinations, to outpatient and hospital-based procedures. The bright, white LEDs used in all Green Series Medical Exam Lights aid in true tissue color rendition and provide uniform spot size—features that aid caregivers in every product application. The new lights are currently available in select international markets and will be available in the U.S. in January 2010. The company will also preview a new, lightweight electrocardiograph (ECG) that is connectivity-ready and designed for use in settings where flexibility and efficiency are of utmost importance. The Welch Allyn CP 50™ ECG has an intuitive design and functionality and offers the speed and power of a fully-featured ECG in a compact, portable size. In addition to administering patient tests at the push of a button, the device can interface with the Welch Allyn CardioPerfect™ Workstation Software to connect patient data to an electronic health record (EHR) system, health information system (HIS), over the Internet, or through e-mail.
Scheduled for worldwide release in the coming months, the CP 50 provides on-screen instructions that save time and ensure accurate data capture by highlighting poor signals and connections. The device comes equipped with an integrated high-resolution thermal printer that generates ECG reports in customizable formats. The optional MEANS interpretation program provides a second silent opinion. Finally, a full range of connectivity solutions are available that allow paperless archiving and flexible connectivity options.
"Connectivity is having a profound impact on the way we develop our products," added Shimer. "Patient safety and sustainability are primary concerns—in hospitals, remote clinics, and physician offices. We are designing products that offer greater efficiency and more connectivity options to help shape the future of healthcare delivery beyond traditional approaches to connect, manage, and share patient information—and improve patient care in the process."
