Welch Allyn, a leading manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today introduced the Digital MacroView™ Veterinary Otoscope, a handheld video otoscope with USB connected, plug-and-play capabilities that offers clear, live and still images of the ear canal and tympanic membrane-improving communication and client compliance.
"The Digital MacroView Veterinary Otoscope is the latest advance to the device that helps veterinarians perform one of their common procedures," said Cindy Kuiper, senior category manager, Welch Allyn. "Providers now have a simple, affordable tool in a familiar form that gives them the ability to capture, review and store digital images. It offers veterinarians the ability to share small details of ears, mouth and teeth with their clients and other providers as visual descriptive references, and serves as an excellent training aid for educational purposes."
The device allows vets to show pet owners the results of a procedure by letting them see pre- and post-treatment images of the ear. It has the ability to focus the image without having to physically move the specula in the ear which improves patient comfort. The focus also allows the practitioner to clearly see the entire length of the canal to the tympanic membrane.
According to Kuiper, performing otoscopy is a standard procedure during a general veterinary examination, particularly for felines and canines. The Digital MacroView Veterinary Otoscope's optical system and field of view provide a dramatic result in terms of the detail the practitioner can see in and around the tympanic membrane. The new scope works with all existing Welch Allyn 3.5V power sources, including power handles and wall transformers.
