The overwhelming wake of destruction left by the recent earthquake in Haiti made it one of the most devastating natural disasters ever to hit the Caribbean. Critical hospitals and clinics in the region have suffered massive losses that will take years, if not decades, to restore. Some officials are predicting that the death toll from the quake could number in the hundreds of thousands before the rescue and clean up efforts are over. More than a million residents have been displaced and many of the refugees were living well below the poverty line before the quake.
In the spirit of our company's core value "Be Always Kind and True," we believe it is our responsibility as a good corporate citizen to respond swiftly to aid those in need. As a result, we are relying on our partnerships with global humanitarian organizations to assist in the relief efforts. Last year, we donated over $1 million worth of newly manufactured and factory refurbished medical instruments to our non-profit partners, International Aid and Heart to Heart International so they could ship them on a moment’s notice wherever and whenever disaster strikes. And that moment is now.
