President & CEO - Julie A. Shimer, Ph. D.
Julie A. Shimer, Ph.D., began her tenure as the seventh president and CEO of Welch Allyn on March 5, 2007.
"The thing that gets me most excited about joining Welch Allyn is the passion the people of Welch Allyn have for the products we make, the customers we serve and the work we do," Dr. Shimer said. "This kind of passion throughout an organization is unique and one compelling reason why Welch Allyn will continue to win in the marketplace."
Dr. Shimer began her career at Welch Allyn with over 20 years of executive leadership experience at Motorola, 3Com, AT&T Bell Laboratories, and Bethlehem Steel Company. Most recently, she was President & CEO of Cupertino, Calif.-based Vocera Communications, a leading wireless communications company.
She is also a member of the following professional organizations: IEEE and Society of Women Engineers, Sigma Xi and board of directors of the Engineering Information Foundation, and board of directors, Netgear.
She holds a B.S. degree in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Lehigh University.
Executive Vice President & President, US & Canada - Steve Meyer
Steve Meyer is executive vice president, & president U.S and Canada Business for Welch Allyn. In this role he oversees the entire portfolio of products and services for this region including sales, marketing, franchise management, customer service, market sensing, as well as global category management and R & D.
A native of Michigan, he began his career at Welch Allyn in 1981 as a sales representative in Detroit. Over the last 26 years, Steve has held a series of leadership roles in a wide range of areas. He became a vice president in 1996, which provided the foundation for his current role.
Steve holds a B.S. degree from Alma College in biology and earned his M.B.A. from the University of Rochester. He serves on the board of directors for the Health Industry Distributors Association Foundation, MedTech (Central New York Medical Technology Association), Alma College, and Hiawatha Seaway Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a past board member and president of the Health Manufacturers Marketing Council, and Westminster Manor Extended Care.
Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer - Kevin Cahill
Kevin Cahill is executive vice president and chief financial officer at Welch Allyn. He oversees all facets of finance, information technology, and regulatory operations.
Kevin came to Welch Allyn in 1989 from Pass & Seymour, where he was treasurer. Prior to that, Kevin worked for Ernst & Young, where he earned his CPA in public accounting. After three years at Ernst & Young, he decided that he would rather, "influence the future rather than report the past," leading him to his current career path.
In 2000, Kevin was appointed to the position of CFO. In addition, he served as chairman of Everest VIT board of directors (a Welch Allyn subsidiary company, which was sold to GE in 2005).
Kevin holds a B.S. degree in accounting from SUNY Binghamton. He is also a member of the board of directors at Community General Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Executive Vice President, Strategy & Business Development - Doug Linquest
In 2007, Doug Linquest was appointed to the position of executive vice president, strategy and business development. Doug oversees Welch Allyn's Beaverton, OR facility and serves the company with overall site management of this location. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations in Beaverton, Doug is responsible for strategy and business development, corporate communication and Welch Allyn's defibrillation business unit.
A native of Skaneateles, NY, Doug started his career at Welch Allyn in 1983 and has worked in a variety of sales, marketing, and executive leadership roles including acting as vice president and general manager of our San Diego thermometry operation from 1998 through 2005.
Doug has his B.A. degree in English from Colgate University and an M.B.A. from Syracuse University. He is a member of the executive board of directors of the Oregon Bioscience Association.
Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Organization Leadership - Dan Fisher
Dan Fisher is senior vice president, Human Resources and Organization Leadership. In this role, he has responsibility for Welch Allyn's global human resource and organization management policies and programs.
In 1980, he began at Welch Allyn as director of human resources, after starting his career at Mobil Oil. In 1985, Dan assumed the role as vice president, human resources. And from 1988 through 1992, Dan led the company's Total Quality Improvement process.
Engaged as a leader of many not-for-profit organizations over the course of his career, Dan is currently the President of St. James Episcopal Church Foundation and is an active member of the Conference Board Council of Mid-Market HR Executives, Onondaga Community College Foundation Board of Directors, and CNY Episcopal Diocese Finance and Investment Committee, among others.
Dan earned his A.B. from Hamilton College, his M.I.L.R. from Cornell University and his M.B.A. from Syracuse University.
Senior Vice President, Global Operations and Supply Chain Management - Darrell (Andy) Clapper
Darrell A. Clapper (Andy) is Senior Vice President, Global Operations and Supply Chain Management at Welch Allyn. He began his career at Welch Allyn in 2006, after arriving from Eastman Kodak, where he was Director of Global Health Group Flow and Vice President of Global Manufacturing and logistics.
During his 27 year career at Eastman Kodak, Andy was recognized as a global operations leader with extensive lean and six sigma experience. His career included six executive leadership roles in a series of diverse and progressively challenging positions within the Fortune 500 company.
He earned his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Additionally, Andy earned his master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Rochester.
Executive Vice President & President, International - Louise McDonald
Louise is president, international and corporate executive vice president responsible for developing and executing the company's international strategy. She is focused on delivering superior growth and development of products ideally suited for international markets, including sourcing products, materials and potential new technologies and acquisitions.
Having joined Welch Allyn in 1980, Louise has held a number of successive management positions including general manager, Canada; business development, Latin America; global services & solutions, and business leader in strategic business units of women's health, thermometry and core blood pressure. Most recently, Louise was senior vice president and managing director, EMEA.
She has served on the board of directors for Community General Hospital, Syracuse; CNY Works, HMMC and is a current member of the Professional Women in Healthcare. She has a BS from McGill University and an MBA from the Simon School, Rochester.
Senior Vice President & Chief Science & Technology Officer - Al Di Rienzo
As senior vice president and chief technology officer, Al Di Rienzo plays a crucial role as a member of the executive team at Welch Allyn. In this capacity, Al is responsible for Welch Allyn's worldwide innovation activities. Al will collaborate closely with the strategy & business development function, regional business leaders, global product management leader and the platform leader with respect to strategic, technology and innovation roadmaps.
Building his career on a foundation of technological expertise and leadership, Al has contributed significantly to the advancement of commercial, military, and medical applications. In the span of 23 years, his career includes research and development appointments at Welch Allyn, Philips Medical Systems, Siemens Medical Systems, Honeywell/Sperry Aerospace and General Dynamics Land Systems.
His experience in the engineering field has contributed to the vision and overall success of Welch Allyn as the company continues to experience growth on many levels. Al serves on numerous boards and committees including the Executive Committee, IT Steering Committee and Political Action Committee. Al is the chair of the Welch Allyn Feasibility, Assessment, Strategic Team and also chairs the Product Strategy Board.
Committed to serving professional and educational assets to the Central New York region, Al is a board member for Continued Health Alliance and is the founding chair of the Syracuse Chapter of Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. He also serves on the Columbia University Center for Advanced Information Management External Advisory Board and is the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Medical MindXchange Most Valuable Thought Leader.
Senior Vice President, Platform Development - Karen Hendricks
Karen Hendricks, Senior VP for Platform Development is responsible for developing and implementing the requirements for a comprehensive Welch Allyn platform for future products and services. Karen along with the help of many of her colleagues will lead Welch Allyn's efforts to develop a hardware and software platform allowing for more efficient innovation serving the needs of our customers and the corporation. This, in turn, will enable Welch Allyn to provide world-class service and support for all of our customers throughout our product lines.
Karen worked at Welch Allyn in a variety of research and development leadership roles from 2001 to 2006. Prior to Welch Allyn, Karen worked 15 years at 3Com and Motorola. Karen has expertise in embedded system design and development, architecture and systems engineering, wireless network protocols as well as software and hardware/RF design. Karen has engineering degrees from the University of Florida. She is a member of the American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
