President & CEO - Julie A. Shimer, Ph. D.

Julie Shimer, Ph.D., is chief executive officer and president of Welch Allyn, a privately-held, manufacturer of frontline medical equipment and diagnostic solutions headquartered in Skaneateles Falls, New York. Shimer joined the Welch Allyn family in 2002 as a member of the board of directors, bringing with her over 20 years of leadership experience in the computer networking and wireless communications industries. Shimer's business expertise and exceptional grasp of technology proved to be an invaluable asset to the company, earning her the title of president and CEO in 2007 - becoming the first woman to hold this post in the 95-year history of the company. In her first two years at the company, Welch Allyn won "Best Places to Work™" accolades in Ireland and Mexico, began developing an innovative new platform of connected devices, and broke ground on a $30 million expansion project at its global headquarters in Skaneateles Falls.

Most recently, Shimer served as president and CEO of Vocera Communications, a leading wireless communications company based in Cupertino, Calif.  While at Vocera, she led the company in securing more than $29 million in capital funding, shipped the first Vocera Communications Systems, and added key talent to the executive, marketing, and technical teams. As a result of her leadership, the company experienced explosive growth; and its communication system was deployed in leading hospitals in the United States and Europe.

Shimer also held executive positions at 3Com Corporation, serving as vice president and general manager of its networking products. Before joining 3Com, she held executive positions at Motorola, where she was vice president and general manager in the paging division and, prior to that post, vice president in its semiconductor products sector. Shimer also held leadership positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Bethlehem Steel Company. Along the way, Shimer was issued a US patent and authored more than 10 technical papers.

Shimer currently holds board positions with Welch Allyn, Netgear, the Engineering Information Foundation and the Metropolitan Development Association. She is actively involved in programs that encourage women to enter engineering fields and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Society for Women Engineers.

Dr. Shimer holds master's and doctoral degrees in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University and a bachelor's degree in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. 

She resides in Skaneateles, NY with her husband, Jary.

Executive Vice President & President, US & Canada - Steve Meyer

Steve Meyer is executive vice president, & president U.S and Canada Business for Welch Allyn. In this role he oversees the entire portfolio of products and services for this region including sales, marketing, franchise management, customer service, market sensing, as well as global category management and R & D.

A native of Michigan, he began his career at Welch Allyn in 1981 as a sales representative in Detroit. Over the last 26 years, Steve has held a series of leadership roles in a wide range of areas.  He became a vice president in 1996, which provided the foundation for his current role.

Steve holds a B.S. degree from Alma College in biology and earned his M.B.A. from the University of Rochester.  He serves on the board of directors for the Health Industry Distributors Association Foundation, MedTech (Central New York Medical Technology Association), Alma College, and Hiawatha Seaway Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a past board member and president of the Health Manufacturers Marketing Council, and Westminster Manor Extended Care.

Executive Vice President & President, International - Louise McDonald

Louise is president, international and corporate executive vice president responsible for developing and executing the company's international strategy. She is focused on delivering superior growth and development of products ideally suited for international markets, including sourcing products, materials and potential new technologies and acquisitions.

Having joined Welch Allyn in 1980, Louise has held a number of successive management positions including general manager, Canada; business development, Latin America; global services & solutions, and business leader in strategic business units of women's health, thermometry and core blood pressure. Most recently, Louise was senior vice president and managing director, EMEA.

She has served on the board of directors for Community General Hospital, Syracuse; CNY Works, HMMC and is a current member of the Professional Women in Healthcare. She has a BS from McGill University and an MBA from the Simon School, Rochester.

Executive Vice President, Strategy & Business Development - Doug Linquest

In 2007, Doug Linquest was appointed to the position of executive vice president, strategy and business development. Doug oversees Welch Allyn's Beaverton, OR facility and serves the company with overall site management of this location. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations in Beaverton, Doug is responsible for strategy and business development, corporate communication and Welch Allyn's defibrillation business unit.

A native of Skaneateles, NY, Doug started his career at Welch Allyn in 1983 and has worked in a variety of sales, marketing, and executive leadership roles including acting as vice president and general manager of our San Diego thermometry operation from 1998 through 2005.

Doug has his B.A. degree in English from Colgate University and an M.B.A. from Syracuse University. He is a member of the executive board of directors of the Oregon Bioscience Association. 

Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Organization Leadership - Dan Fisher

Dan Fisher is senior vice president, Human Resources and Organization Leadership. In this role, he has responsibility for Welch Allyn's global human resource and organization management policies and programs.

In 1980, he began at Welch Allyn as director of human resources, after starting his career at Mobil Oil. In 1985, Dan assumed the role as vice president, human resources. And from 1988 through 1992, Dan led the company's Total Quality Improvement process.

Engaged as a leader of many not-for-profit boards over the course of his career, Dan is currently chair of the (William H.) Seward House Museum Board of Trustees, vice chair of the Onondaga Community College Foundation Board of Trustees, chair of the CNY Episcopal Diocese Investment Committee, and member of the Fenimore Asset Management Client Advisory Council. 

Dan earned his A.B. from Hamilton College, his M.I.L.R. from Cornell University and his M.B.A. from Syracuse University.

 

Senior Vice President, Global Operations and Supply Chain Management - Darrell (Andy) Clapper

Darrell A. Clapper (Andy) is Senior Vice President, Global Operations and Supply Chain Management at Welch Allyn.  He began his career at Welch Allyn in 2006, after arriving from Eastman Kodak, where he was Director of Global Health Group Flow and Vice President of Global Manufacturing and logistics.

During his 27 year career at Eastman Kodak, Andy was recognized as a global operations leader with extensive lean and six sigma experience.  His career included six executive leadership roles in a series of diverse and progressively challenging positions within the Fortune 500 company.

He earned his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Pennsylvania State University.  Additionally, Andy earned his master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Rochester.

Senior Vice President, Technology & Innovation - Karen Hendricks

Karen Hendricks, Senior VP for Technology & Innovation is responsible for developing and implementing the requirements for a comprehensive Welch Allyn portfolio of future products and services.  Karen worked at Welch Allyn in a variety of research and development leadership roles from 2001 to 2006.  Prior to Welch Allyn, Karen worked 15 years at 3Com and Motorola. Karen has expertise in embedded system design and development, architecture and systems engineering, wireless network protocols as well as software and hardware/RF design.  Karen has engineering degrees from the University of Florida. She is a member of the American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).


 

Senior Vice President and General Counsel - Gregory Porter

Porter will be responsible for overseeing the legal, quality/regulatory and government affairs groups for Welch Allyn and will serve as a central contact point for employees, management and the board of directors. Additionally, his new position will involve acting as an advisor to senior management and serving as secretary to the board of directors.

Most recently, Porter has served as co-founder, CEO and board vice chairman of Verispan, a healthcare information company founded in a joint venture between Quintiles Transnational Corp. and McKesson Corp. Prior to that, he spent several years with Quintiles Transnational Corp., occupying a number of executive leadership roles that encompassed general counsel, legal and regulatory management and strategic development, among others. He has also held positions as a partner with the Moore & Van Allen Law Firm, visiting lecturer at the University of North Carolina School of Law, and law clerk for U.S. District Judge William Matthew Byrne.

Porter earned a juris doctorate (JD) degree with high honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law where he served as editor-in-chief of the North Carolina Law Review.

Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer - Karen Roscher

Karen Roscher is senior vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) for Welch Allyn.

In this role, she leads the company's global finance team, oversees all financial appropriations and expenditures for the company, align finance and business strategies, and works to execute a growth strategy for the company. Karen also works analyzing and disseminating financial data, monitoring a number of other global financial initiatives associated with Welch Allyn, and developing capital investment plans.

Before joining Welch Allyn in 2009, she served as senior vice president and CFO of Conexant Systems, a $500 million, publicly-traded semiconductor company specializing in broadband communications. Prior experience includes 26 years in a variety of financial management positions with Motorola, Inc. and Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.

Karen earned a B.S in accounting and an MBA from Arizona State University and is a certified public accountant (CPA).

Eric Hunt, Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Eric Hunt has been vice president chief information officer for Welch Allyn since May 2007. Eric is responsible for all Information Technology (IT) related issues including SAP deployments, IBM outsource contract and all IT infrastructure functions. He is also a senior business partner on the Welch Allyn management team. Eric has served on a number of boards, including board president for the Rochester Ebusiness Association, Syracuse University iSchool Board of Advisors, and the Health Advancement Collaborative of Central New York. Prior to joining Welch Allyn, Eric worked for the Eastman Kodak Company for 21 years in various IT positions, most recently as the CIO of its Consumer Digital Imaging Group & Film Photofinishing Systems Group--including KodakGallery, the company's new online photo storage business. Prior to this role, Eric was the Global IT director for all of Kodak’s business units, including the Consumer Imaging, Health and Graphics Communication groups. Eric earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts.
